Cautious of the Consensus

Wow! Here we are at the end of January 2025. If you’re like me, you’ll still be writing about 2024 for another month. January is now behind us, and as usual, it felt longer than 31 days.

This week, we were honored to host Max Mann, CFA, CMT, and Portfolio Manager at Specialized Asset Management (SAM), for our first Experts Unplugged event of the year. Max shared their 2025 outlook, echoing the cautious optimism from our previous biweeklies. Our biggest takeaway? Their team's insights on potential tariff impacts, based on recent discussions with CEOs at Baird’s 54th Annual Industrial Conference in December (full report here). The consensus: many companies grappled with tariffs back in 2018, and with that recent experience, many feel well equipped to leverage the knowledge gained to absorb and weather what may be ahead. Listen to the full replay on our website by clicking here.

A quick summary of our discussion with Max: The market has continued its upward momentum from 2024, though we remain watchful for an overdue pullback. While we trust the fundamentals, we stay disciplined in applying our investment principles. We acknowledge the market’s cautious optimism but remain wary of chasing performance. Our approach stays anchored in individual goals, not trends. As always, we’ll keep you updated with any key developments.

Finally, as we monitor your financial plan and the markets, we know you’re also preparing for tax season. Check out the resources below to ensure a smooth and successful filing.

Thank you for your trust and confidence. Until next time, Take Care.
