Market Commentary, Upcoming Events, and More!
Alex:
Hello everybody. Thank you for joining us.
You've got Tom Boh and Alex Phillips here with the Boh Heppe Group, Kelly's on spring break, and says hello! We want to take some time to provide commentary on what we're seeing in markets as well as some updates and events coming up here in the coming weeks.
But first, I'll start with some brief commentary.
Taking a step back in viewing recent volatility, the all-time high in the S&P 500 was February 19th and it took a bit over 20 days to see a 10% fall from that point. Since then, we've rebounded some, which has been nice to see down today just under 7% form the all-time-high. Stepping back, were observing a sideways pattern as the economy and the markets continue to digest and get used to this tariff environment. With that, I’ll throw it over to you Tom!
Tom:
Thanks, Alex. I just have one piece of market commentary to add and a couple of announcements.
First, is that as we launch into second quarter in April, two things are going to happen that markets will pay attention to. One of them, of course, is quarterly earnings. That'll be announced and so, we'll find out if the Q1 estimates are going to be exceeded and of course the market will react to that. But almost more importantly, is what earnings estimates will be projected for Q2, Q3, and Q4. Normally, as we go through the year, quarterly estimates are moderated as time goes on. Our friends at Strategas have shared that they're somewhat surprised that earnings estimates for the year are still +10% and haven't been lowered that much. We predict that moderation will happen as the year goes on, but that's a positive data point going forward.
Then in terms of the announcements, Kelly wanted to make sure that Alex and I shared a couple of things.
One is that we have an expert's unplugged scheduled for next month taking place at noon which we record, and you can call into. This will also be available on our website afterward.
We're excited to host Mark Nickel, who heads our Baird Trust Company. The Baird Trust Company is very interesting in that they offer their own money management team, but also full-service Trust offerings. For estate planning, it's important to know about these resources and we’ve been very impressed with them since they joined Baird roughly 6 years ago. We'll be sending a save-the-date e-mail soon!
Finally, we want to make sure everybody knows that all Baird tax documents are now available. If you've been waiting for one, or if we can assist in providing these documents to your CPA please reach out and we'll make sure that happens.
As always, we thank you for your trust and confidence and until next time, take care.
Tom, Kelly, Alex, Amanda, Jesus, Larry, & Rachael
