Taking Deep Breaths…

In talking with clients this year, there is definitely an air-of-uncertainty, particularly regarding the goings-on in Washington, DC. The logical question to ponder is whether the political volatility today will eventually become the economic & market volatility of tomorrow. Our friend, Adam Grossman of RiverFront Investment Group, has written about this in their most recent Weekly View, entitled: Campaign Rhetoric vs. Governing Reality. One of the key takeaways is that a portfolio manager’s “…job is not to say what politicians should do…but rather to seek to understand the economic and market impact of what they actually do.” In our view, Grossman does a good job summarizing RiverFront’s take on the current administration’s economic policies, followed by some historical examples, and the potential portfolio implications.

As we see it, inflation continues to be the biggest risk to our financial well-being. Historically, though not guaranteed, owning outstanding businesses (stocks) has indeed been an effective strategy to manage inflation risk over longer time horizons. Of course, volatility is also part of that journey, which can be disconcerting, but as we remind folks over and over: Our asset allocation is the first line of defense. We look forward to working with you this year, and staying on track to accomplish your short/mid and longer term, financial goals.

Thank you for your trust and confidence. Until next time, Take Care.
