Tax Planning - The Why and How

Hello everyone, and welcome to this week’s biweekly update.
I’m Kelly Heppe, joined by Alex Phillips. We’re excited to be with you today following last week’s special edition of Experts Unplugged, where our tax specialist, Heath McAteer, joined us to discuss the importance of proactive tax planning. A few team updates: Alex, Jesus, Rachel, and I will be back in Milwaukee next week for Baird’s annual Shareholders Meeting. As many of you know, Baird is an employee-owned firm, and we’re proud that everyone on our team is a shareholder. While we’re away, Larry and Tom will be in Denver holding down the fort.
With that, I’ll turn it over to Alex.
Alex:
It’s been a relatively quiet couple of weeks for financial headlines, but we do have a few notable updates. We’ve officially moved into June, and May ended on a strong note for the markets. After a challenging April, the S&P 500 rebounded with a gain of 6.15%, and the NASDAQ 100 surged nearly 9%, led by strength in the tech sector.
Importantly, the rally has been broad-based—not just concentrated in a few names—which is a healthy sign. Additionally, the Atlanta Fed raised its Q2 GDP estimate to 4.6%, a meaningful upward revision. We’ll see how the quarter ultimately plays out, but it’s certainly encouraging.

2025 Baird Annual Meeting
This year, Baird's Annual Shareholder Meeting will be held in person in Milwaukee. As an employee-owned, privately held firm, all team members are shareholders.
